Jonathan Cross is Reader in Musicology at the University of Bristol. He is author of The Stravinsky Legacy (Cambridge1998) and Harrison Birtwistle: Man, Mind, Music (2000), and is Editor of the journal Music Analysis.

Short and Simple!

As a cultural club leader in my university, I sometimes find it very difficult to keep up with my team, do brainstorms or some creative games to keep them motivated! Fortunately, I got this book for free and really loved its precise writing. This team building book has some really cool team games and team activity management tips to keep a team active and get better results!
I'm really very happy reading this book. As a leader, I see myself challenging the pitfalls, overcoming them and get my team together and motivate them to work hard. Indepth info about the 'why' of team building.

This book showed up while I was researching for community building exercises, and I quite liked its approach. It not just gives ample activities, but also a lot of relevant information about why activities are needed, what is the intent of such exercises, what kind of dynamics to expect and also what activities suit different kinds of personalities. Now that is a wealth of info. I enjoyed conducting the ‘Who am I’ activity. Look out for resource list too!

The Index consists of multiple lists, tables and discussions linked to (amongst others) radiography, CT, MRI and components such as radiological contrast agents, responses to contrast reactions and MRI safety. About the Author
Jonathan McConnell�has experience of writing for Blackwell Publishing on two occasions. He co-edited ‘Interpreting Trauma Radiographs’ with Eyres and Nightingale, and contributed to “Paediatric Radiography’ by Hardy and Boynes. He has also written for Carver and Carver’s ‘Medical Imaging, Techniques, Reflection and Evaluation’ published by Churchill Livingstone. He has several other publications via peer reviewed journals and is a member of the editorial board of ‘Radiography’ the UK peer reviewed journal. He has taught at the University of Bradford, held a Principal Lectureship with St Martin’s College and was Head of Department in Christchurch, New Zealand. Currently he holds a Senior Lectureship at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. Before moving into academia he had 11 years of clinical practice culminating in a position of reporting Radiographer and Clinical Tutor at the Leeds General Infirmary.

Born in 1974 in Nantes, France, Gerald grew up in nine different cities around the land of cheese. He graduated from the National School of Applied Art (also called Olivier de Serres) in 1998. Gerald's creativity blossomed at a web design company, an event studio, a video-games studio, and then several animations studios. Aside from illustration, Gerald has many other interests, including managing the French Comics Artists association "Rendez-Vous" (which published its first book at Akileos publishing in 2009), or co-leading with the Japanese Artist Daisuke Tsutsumi the artistic and charity project "Sketchtravel," a real sketchbook shared by 70 illustrators from all around the world. When Trisha Speed Shaskan was a girl, she wanted to become a superhero. Her mother gave her a Wonder Woman costume. Her dad crafted her a tiara and bracelets out of metal to match. Trisha imagined she could fight evil, fly an invisible airplane, and get anyone to tell the truth. While she didn't grow up to be Wonder Woman, she still uses her imagination to write stories and to teach creative writing. Trisha has taught creative writing to children and adults for thirteen years. She has published 26 books for children, and more are forthcoming. She has an MFA in creative writing from Minnesota State University, Mankato. Trisha currently lives in Minneapolis with her husband, Stephen, and their cat, Eartha, named after Eartha Kitt, famous for her role as Catwoman.

I purchased this book because my toddler loves any story starring Big Bad Wolf. I was looking for an alternative to the traditional fairy tale, one that swapped the antagonist/protagonist role or offered an alternate ending. This reimagining of a classic was creative, but the narrative is very dangerous. The insight into the wolf's mind reveals him to be even more predatory than previously thought. The story suggests that Red and Granny had it coming, because Red looked like a delicious apple and flaunted herself in front of the wolf. Both Red and Granny were quite self-obsessed with their looks and gazed into their mirrors completely ignorant of the grave danger behind them. I'll say it bluntly: This book perpetuates rape culture and victim-blaming. It suggests that the wolf couldn't help himself because of how his victim was dressed. It's highly inappropriate and irresponsible to introduce this book to children who aren't yet intellectually mature enough to have a conversation about the ethics of it.

Actually it was a cute story!!!

I don't know, but people need to lighten up a little bit. My daughters and I thought it was a cute story. This is a vain little girl that was kind of annoying in a funny way. Even the wolf found her hilarious I would say. My daughters know the real story of the Red Riding Hood and we found this one with a different tweak to it. I just don't understand why some people would say that it would be scary for kids. I think parents are the one that transfer those negative feelings. Use those opportunities for learning experiences rather than negative ones. Be open minded to different things in life... believe me, you will find life easier. Life is too short, find humor in it.

Inspiration for Applying Scrum

The first thing to know is that this isn't a detailed guide to Scrum practices, though there is a summary of the key practices in an appendix. Since there are lots of guides to Scrum at the practices at varying levels of details, having more about what the practices are would not add a lot of value. This book does inform you about how scrum works by helping you to understand the value of Scrum through stories of Scrum in use in various domains, and not just software.. The book is full of war stories (both literally and figuratively), and Sutherland is clearly proud of how he, his family, and organizations he has worked with, have applied scrum. Reading this book will help energize you to use Scrum to help your team succeed. This is not the only book on Scum you need. But if you want motivation to explore more about Scrum, or if you have been practicing Scrum for a while and are looking for renewed inspiration, give this book a read.

Best starter resource on scrum on the market

Why did I choose this book? Its the premier book in scrum created by one of its founders. And it had fantastic reviews.

Do NOT listen to people who say "it doesn't teach you how to implement scrum." yes it does. There is an appendix implantation guide at the end and the "why" and "how" all throughout the book.

What was my experience reading the book? It was a very easy read. The voice of the book was pleasant and flowed well.

It told of the history of scrum and how each role, each event, and each artifact developed and now what the best practices are.

This book will get anyone up to speed on scrum.

Would I recommend it to others? Of course, if they want to learn scrum, this is the bet place to start without a doubt.

Anecdotal discussion of Scrum's basis

This is NOT a primer or tutorial for using Scrum. It is a good treatment of Scrum's fundamental concepts, their origins and their purpose in achieving specific objectives.
The author uses productivity as the hook to garner interest, and he does equate many concepts with productivity impact.
But, the comments on productivity are almost entirely anecdotal and qualitative. This is not unexpected, productivity across projects (or even sprints), can be hard to measure quantitatively in any meaningful way.

For some reason, the author tries hard to avoid using software projects as examples. Possibly, he wants to pitch scrum to a much wider audience. Maybe for good reason, since Scrum is type cast as a software process. But the author may have gone too far the other way. The structure and repetitiveness of software developments lend themselves to iterative processes and help prospective users understand how Scrum practices add value & can improve outcomes.
These benefits can be harder to see with some other types of projects.

The stories used are interesting, but a bit too anecdotal for me. I would have liked to see more data to back up his assertions. (This book is VERY light on real data).

Overall, a good book to introduce the uninitiated in what scrum is, and more importantly, why you want to bring it into your organization.
