Awesome reference manual

I bought the paperback in 2005 and used it heavily. Somehow I lost the paperback and now bought it again in kindle. Very well written reference manual and the best I have seen on the topic.

Excellent reference, and a good introduction to ADO

This book is classic O'Reilly. It's separated into three sections. The first being a thorough but brief introduction to all aspects of the API. The second section is an API reference. And the third a quick reference. This third section is included on the CD that comes with the book and will integrate into Visual Studio.
Don't expect the first section of the book, which is an introduction to ADO.NET to give you a gentle introduction to the subject. That's not the Nutshell form. If you don't know ADO at all you will want to buy both this book and an introductory book. If you know related APIs, or you know ADO.NET and you need a refresher or have weak spots you will find some new things in the first section. For me it was the support for disconnect access and also the integration with the XML features of SQL Server 2000.
Although this book stays true to the Nutshell form it is a little longer in the introduction than the usual. The introductory section is seventeen chapters and is almost half of the length of the book. So if you are an intermediate or advanced engineer I think you could probably learn enough ADO directly from this book without any other introductory book.

Incredible!

I've owned this book for 3 days and cannot put it down! I have not been a big fan of O'Reilly over the years, but this book is "incredible". It goes into the detail that most books seem to omit and it's those details that we "developers" desperately need.
I would recommend this book to ANY and ALL .NET developers who are writing code that hits against a database. There are topics covered in this book that Microsoft's own MSDN and VS.NET help system seem to fail at properly explaining. It's because of this that I've found myself (all too often) going to codeguru.com and google groups to get answers to ADO.NET questions that this book actually covers.
My hat goes off to authors Matthew MacDonald and Bill Hamilton on a job well done.
Coming from a Visual Basic background and now working in VB.NET and C#.NET, this book should satisfy both the VB.NET and C# developer.

I was disappointed. Beyond the first couple pages all the pictures were black and white. For $25.+ I'd expect everything in color. It's hard to get excited about a recipe when the pictures are black and white - no matter how great the recipe itself might be.

Has some really great recipes in it that I can't wait to try

Has some really great recipes in it that I can't wait to try. I've always loved this magazine for it's recipes so I'm happy that now I can have them all in one quick and easy book. The only negative is half of the photos are in black and white, which I do not understand why since they are in color in the actual magazine. I hope the publisher rethinks this and does the next print batch in color and updates the kindle version to color photos of the food as well. It's difficult to see the outcome/finish product without a nice color photo.

Wonderful textbook!

This text book is incredibly thorough, yet concise. Understandable explanations and real-world examples make understanding and applying the concepts easy. The author's sense of humor makes the text that much more enjoyable. The sequencing of chapters and references within the chapters to past or future explanations is helpful. There are practice quizzes at the end of each chapter that are thought provoking and a good test of your understanding of the material. I highly recommend this book.

This was the textbook for my junior class. The author can be described as having a sense of humor which I have found rare in textbooks. The vocabulary is clear and concise and the chapters have a good progression for a new student in the field of SLP.

Disappointing

I was really looking forward to this title and put it on my short list to read as soon as it came out. Unfortunately it appears to have been released prematurely. This book would be more appropriately titled "An Introduction to Using Python for Forensics" and unfortunately falls far short of any Mastery. To be sure, there is a lot of of good gems in here if you aren't familiar with using Python to support digital investigations but the authors' writing style is so terse that you end up with nothing more than a highlight in most cases. Another key drawback is that there are critical topics missing. The most glaring of these is that there is no coverage of using Python to analyze Windows file systems. Inodes for Linux are covered but nothing on NTFS or FAT file systems for instance.

There is definitely some useful information in here if you are just learning to leverage Python for forensics examinations so a worthwhile read if you are that. If you have used Python as part of investigations already then the price probably isn't worth the material.

I enjoyed to link the topics covered using fully python scripting oriented approach developed in this book.
However, you already need to have experience in computer forensics and understand main concepts to be able to implement provided methods. Python learning curve is outstanding fast and most of the readers will be able to address common forensics, including mobile forensics cases by only applying provided scripts and referenced libraries.
As for all python books, tutorials and available code, the reader will have to, when feeling confortable with provided code, adapt the code to his own needs. Now that The Sleuthkit provides python modules, and with help of the covered C-types, forensics practitioners will have a real added value toolset to solve ad-hoc challenges.

Wonderful

It's been some time since I read the Island Queen, but I remember that my impressions upon reading it were wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed the story. The story, I believe, was about three young people, a girl and her two brothers who are wrecked and find themselves on an uninhabited island. Uninhabited, that is, until a large ship is also wrecked on the island, causing the now large group of unfortunate people to band together to form a little colony of their own. Full of adventure, friendship, and even a little theology, The Island Queen is truly an excellent read.

Really enjoyed

This book is so much fun. Dominick, Pauline, and Otto are great main characters. Each of the siblings has their own personality and character strengths. As girls have little appearance in most Ballantine books, I appreciate Pauline's character especially.
Unlike Ballantine's similar book, The Coral Island, The Island Queen contents itself with very brief descriptions of the flora and fauna, and only goes into detail once or twice about things the siblings made.
This book deals with many issues, such as starvation, government, alcoholism, justice, and God's providence, just touching on each of them.
While the characters' Christianity does not often enter the book, what is there is true and good. I especially appreciated the discussion near the end about how we can be grateful and hopeful for everything because God uses even sin for good.

About the Author
Edward Hull is a long time student of the history of the development of breech loading firearms in the mid 1800s. He has authored two books and over 45 magazine articles on various common and rare collector’s arms. He is a retired aerospace engineer and a retired Air Force combat pilot.

Excellent research on one of the most obscure designs of the civil war. The information on the rifles usage at New Orleans, the converted Austrian rifles and that 6,000 carbines were made was all new to me. The use of Linder carbines in South America was also nice but obviously needs more work to clarify there use in the War of the Triple Alliance.
