Excellent Book for Beginners in Civil 3D

Good book if you are new to Civil 3D. Great for learning to put together a full project from scratch.

However, most beginners are either stepping into the middle of a project or trying to document a completed project. There needs to be a special section on "How to fix it when someone else has screwed it up!"

All in all, a good reference book with plenty of examples. I especially like the steps given on accessing certain menu items. Many menus on Civil 3D are buried deep. Autodesk help instructions always start in the middle as if you are already an expert in navigating the ribbon/button/tab maze. Mr. Chappell has done a very good job of starting at the beginning.

Bernardino de Sahag n (Sahag n ca. 1499-Ciudad de M xico, 1590), Espa a. Su nombre original es Bernardino de Rivera. Sahag n escribi en n huatl y castellano, y su obra es muy valiosa para la reconstrucci n de la historia del M xico anterior a la Conquista. Hacia 1520 Sahag n estudi en la Universidad de Salamanca. All aprendi lat n, historia, filosof a y teolog a. Hacia 1525 entr en la orden franciscana y en 1529 se fue a M xico en misi n con otros frailes, encabezados por fray Antonio de Ciudad Rodrigo. En 1536 Bernardino de Sahag n fund el Imperial Colegio de la Santa Cruz de Tlaltelulco. Desde el comienzo ense lat n all . El prop sito del Colegio era la instrucci n acad mica y religiosa de j venes de la nobleza nahualt. This Book Opened a Whole New World for Me!

Thank you to Amazon for carrying this book and getting it to me so quickly. I won't be truly objective, because I am a niece of Dr. Dibble. As a child, on more than one occasion, I took a peek into his very large study, and did not understand the stacks of papers and huge table which held them. The shelves of books and large desk made me curious, but not brave enough to enter where I had not a right to be.

He was so quiet and kind, but never at all inclined to boast or even talk about his achievements, so here I am at age 69, looking for the first time. I am not an academic, but I am always curious about other cultures and about history in general. I bought volume II from Amazon, after checking the price for the whole set, and knew I would have to settle for just one book right now! Checking the internet for input, I ordered this volume - recommended on one site as a good place to begin.

I was not surprised, because I knew generally what the works covered and how they came about, but I was very pleased to read a small part of what took a lifetime of total immersion in acadaemia to come to fruition. Each page contains two columns. On the right of the page is the Spanish translation of the codices. The left column contains the English translation, as agreed upon by the two professors, Drs. Johnson and Dibble - after individual translation and then correspondance and consultaion and probably compromise. A short way into the book, the Spanish translation gives way to Nahuatl, the language of the Aztec remnants who helped the Spanish Fra who collected the codices and began the manuscripts. It is a fascinating look at a language which is full of "X's" and does not follow English or Spanish pronunciation rules; but the really amazing and spellbinding thing for me is the English translation of the seaasons and ceremonies of sacrifice that were part of the Aztec way. This is a volume (I could only wish to have all 13 in my poaaession!) that explains what happened on those Central American pyramids, and the reasons for the ceremonies (and much more). I now know where one of the Indiana Jones movies got an idea for some of its content....but this is no movie!

The book intrigues me. I have read much of it to my husband. We marvel at the look backwards into another civilization and culture. It should be on the shelves of every person who has any interest at all in Aztec civilization, because it is real. These are the facts that can only truly be seen in original translation of language and heiroglyph. The University of Utah Press has done a magnificent work in formatting and printing this series. There are some amazing copies of the orignal Aztec figures, from which the Spanish and Nahuatl translations were taken.

This is NOT someone's condensed version of a general idea that they read once. This is original research and translation. It is not difficult to read. Buy one copy or the whole set! Coming to understand the processes by which this book came about, and then learning and marveling, has been a wonderful thing for me. It should be on every bookshelf. It will be going to my children and grandchildren as an absolutely necessary reference, a good read, and a look into family excellence. Only once have I known such a scholar!.....and I know that I must now have more of what he spent a lifetime, heart, and soul working on.

Absolutely awesome information regarding the other side of the story as it relates to the Spanish Conquest of New Spain. It is common knowledge that millions of natives died because of the Spanish invasion of their homeland, but not all due to "evil" Conquistadores. Cortez had no other choice but to stop the massive sacrificial madness, as well as the cannibalism associated with it. I believe that the victims of the sacrifices petitioned Cortez to do the right thing and stop the madness.

I love these books, but the art work is out of this world!

Muy bueno pero no tanto como el anterior libro de la saga. La novela es m�s explicativa en relaci�n a culturas que antes no conoc�amos -como Dorne y las Islas de Hierro-. Pero lo m�s resaltante es la historia de los gemelos Lannister, ahora Cersei tambien tiene su propio punto de vista y podemos conocerla mucho m�s.

A Helping Book that Does Help

I used this book in a class at UC Berkeley. It is easy to read and understand. And the information it continues is priceless for those going into the helping field. It is wonderfully spelled out how a person can be so helpful to another by just listening. It is an easy concept, but one that takes practice to master. "The Art of Helping" took me on a journey of practicing listening to people. For those wanting to be great counselors, or even just good listeners for your friends, this book is imperative.
